But You Want To Know More Right?
If you have come this far then you are in search of more before investing your valuable reading time. I get that, even though the book is meant to be a voyage of discovery.
So what can I tell you that won't spoil it for you.
The idea came from a web post I did years ago. I was researching hypnosis, specifically past life regression. There's an odd phenomenon that happens occasionally in hypnosis when a person drops into a past life regression spontaneously without prompting from the hypnotist.
In my web post I had a young man who was having bad dreams who went to see a hypnotist and on the first session he regressed into a past life where he was a Slayer.
In my book Brian is the shoe salesman who is having bad dreams. He's in permanent therapy for reasons you will have to read the book for. His latest therapist is Niamh (an Irish name that is pronounced Neve in English) and she has arranged for a hypnosis session. Brian is a bit worried about it so his best friend Willow agrees to go with him for moral support.
Incidental Note: Non UK readers may find a description of the education system useful.
After that it gets a bit involved but it revolves around the idea that we are what our memories make us, so if you suddenly acquire memories from a former life it changes who you are inside. That will change your view on life, and also some of your new abilities that you just know how to do, with no prior knowledge in this life.
The three of them change their view on the life around them and in parallel with their conventional lives they also live a life that involves hidden mysterious places like The Village and strange people.
The hypnotist with an unusual specialisation is called Marcus. He turns out to be Marcus the timeless mage, an enigmatic character with his own mythology. He crops up later in the book too.
Oh! and there's a dragon. It's in the title so that's not too much of a spoiler. A dragon who walks amongst us in human female form and takes to the sky in dragon form in the dark of the night. The dragon has had a problem for a long time, but now she's close to a solution, that requires the abilities of the Three. The Three are The Slayer, The Sword Maiden and the Seer. That's Brian, Willow and Niamh to you and me. Their quest involves skills that they have and some skills that they need.
There's a concept among fringe therapies that says that our lives have a unique vibrational frequency. Different frequencies are associated with different mental states that also link through to physical states. I allowed the dragon the power to change these states for people. It's the least she can do when she's sending the Three to do the dangerous work.
When I wrote it, as the story unfolded I was a little surprised from time to time. The story is a bit adult in places, and a bit violent (but not too gory) in places. Sometimes it made me stop and think, but not for too long.
Is it for you? I'd like to think so. I'd like to think it's worth the time to read it too.
